Whales wash ashore with a large portion taken out of it

A humpback whale carcass has been washed ashore on the NSW coast – with a giant piece taken out of the side.

The 11-foot-tall creature washed ashore at Smoky Beach, south of the South West Rocks, on the state’s Mid North Coast.

Officials from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment said they were working to remove it from the beach and the carcass was later seen being driven from the beach in the back of a semi-trailer.
