Southend Garons Park sees ‘deliberate’ grass fire

FIRE BRIGHTERS were called to tackle a “deliberate” grass fire in a popular Southend park.

Crews were called to Garons Park in Southend yesterday afternoon following reports of a grass fire.

Upon arrival, approximately 17.45, the firefighters confirmed that approximately two hectares of grass and heath were alight.

Essex Fire believe the fire may have been deliberate.

Two crews from Southend and one from Shoebury tackled the blaze for almost an hour.

They used hose reels and water backpacks to extinguish the fire at 18.20.

A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called to a grass fire at Garons Park in Southend earlier today.

“We believe this fire may have been caused intentionally.”
