Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro will test the Labrador Island Link (LIL) today and again early next week. It is the line that carries the power from Muskrat Falls to Soldier’s Pond.
Hydro warns that electricity equipment can go offline or suddenly go down in many different places. Trips often occur without any customer impact and usually go unnoticed as Hydro has sufficient backup.
But as we saw a few weeks ago, the trips could lead to fallout. Hydro assures that they can typically restore service within 30 minutes. These outages are referred to as “Under Frequency Load Shedding”.
