One person has died and several others were taken to hospital after a car crash that caused a CareFlight helicopter to crash while responding to the scene. The accident took place around 4:08 a.m. on US 127 at Eaton Road in Hamilton. The road is closed while the authorities investigate the matter. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on Eaton Road when it entered the intersection where it was struck by a GMC Sierra traveling north. A 69-year-old female passenger from Richmond, Indiana, who was riding in the Silverado car was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. A 43-year-old passenger was pulled from the car and taken to hospital with serious injuries. The other two passengers suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospital. The driver of the GMC Sierra was the only person in the car and was not injured. A CareFlight helicopter was called for treatment, but while responding it hit some power lines and crashed near the scene. Three crew members inside the plane were able to exit the plane safely and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is handling both accidents and will work with the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate the helicopter crash. The scene is still active and the road will be closed for the next several hours. The identity of the slain woman is being withheld pending notification of the family.
