Major fire sends a massive plume of smoke over Cardiff and the Glamor Gondola

A major fire involving tires and debris sent a black smoke flag over Cardiff and the Glamorgan Valley. Firefighters were alerted to a large amount of smoke around 9 a.m. Thursday, June 23rd.

The fire involved approximately three tonnes of tires and tree trunks in the area near Cwrt-Yr-Ala-Road in Wenvoe, South Wales Fire and Rescue has confirmed. Several fire brigades and emergency services moved to the scene of the fire.

Residents in the immediate vicinity of the area have been advised to keep windows and doors closed as a safety precaution due to the large amounts of smoke.

A spokesman for the fire department said: “Firefighters worked tirelessly to put out the fire, which involved about three tons of tires and tree trunks. Approximately 9:01 a.m. Thursday, the 23rd.rd June 2022 we received reports of smoke in the area near Cwrt-Yr-Ala-Road in Wenvoe, Cardiff.

“Crews from Barry, Ely, Pontypridd and Cardiff Central Brand and Rescue Stations attended the scene and worked with emergency colleagues and partner agencies. The fire is now extinguished but will continue to simmer for a number of hours.

“Residents near Wenvoe are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area. We would like to thank the public for their cooperation.”
