The government of India has issued a warning to Indian citizens and students living in Canada about an increase in “hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities” in the country, urging its citizens to exercise caution.
In a statement published FridayIndia’s foreign ministry said officials have “raised these incidents” with the Canadian authorities and have asked for investigations into the “said crimes.” The statement also claims that hate crimes against Indian nationals have increased in Canada.
“The perpetrators of these crimes have so far not been brought to justice in Canada,” the statement read.
The notice does not specifically mention any particular crimes or provide additional information about the Indian government’s allegations.
The ministry also advises Indian citizens and students in Canada to register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulate General of India in Toronto or Vancouver to better connect with officials in case of an emergency.
