Former employee of Gladys Berejiklian pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against children

A former political associate of Gladys Berejiklian has pleaded guilty to several historic sexual offenses against children, including aggravated assault.

The accused will appear before the NSW District Court in July, where a verdict will be handed down on the offenses.

Guilty statements were filed for six offenses in April this year after the employee was arrested in 2020 and subsequently given bail.

A revocation order over the entire case was overturned last Friday; however, the former employee was a minor at the time and can never be identified.

Any publication of the names of the victims without their consent is also a breach of orders.

Defendant’s attorney had claimed he could be identified through references to his previous political role, but Judge John Pickering questioned this at a hearing last week.

“There must be literally hundreds of people who have worked as employees of the Premier of NSW,” Pickering said.

“The media can generally still report on matters in the Children’s Court, which is in fact for publication.”

Among the offenses for which the former employee pleaded guilty were gross indecency of a victim under the age of 16 and gross indecency of a victim under the authority of the perpetrator.

The case is set to end on July 12.
