A man and a woman have died in a single car crash on the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory.
According to NT Police, the man and woman – aged 74 and 67 – were found dead by a passing motorist about 10km south of Larrimah last night.
Police officers from Mataranka and Maranboy attended the scene, with traffic diversions in place overnight.
Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit have traveled to the scene from Darwin to begin the investigation.
Senior Sergeant Corey Borton said the crash was a “tragic way to end a long weekend”.
“While we are still investigating the cause of this crash, we just want to remind all road users to take extra care,” he said.
“Slow down and take a break if you’re traveling long distances.”
