Coquihalla Highway closed between Hope and Merritt due to police incident

Half of Coquihalla highway has been closed in both directions due to an active police incident.

The motorway is closed between just north of Hope, BC, to just south of Merrittand police have not released any information about why it has been shut down.

“No public or commercial vehicles are permitted passage at this time,” said a BC RCMP release.

“The public should anticipate delays and plan alternate routes for the next few hours while this incident unfolds.”

RCMP said a large number of police resources from surrounding areas are being sent to the area of ​​Juliet Bridge, just south of Merritt near the Coquihalla Summit.

“Any members of the public in the area are asked to avoid this area and refrain from publicizing police actions online,” police said.

DriveBC says detours are in effect and an assessment of when In Coquiha will reopen is underway. Detours are available via motorways 3 and 5A.
