17 found dead in South African pub, officials say

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA AND LONDON – At least 17 people were found dead in a South African pub early Sunday morning, officials said.

“South African police confirm that about 17 people were found dead inside a local tavern in Scenery Park in the East London area,” said police spokesman Brigadier General Tembinkosi Kinana. “We received this report in the early hours of this morning. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. We do not wish to make any speculations at this time as our investigations continue.”

Police responded to the Enyobeni Tavern around noon. 4 local time, said Kinana, and was in the process of combing the place for evidence dinner. Scenery Park is located in East London, a city in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province.
